A Holly Hedge Wedding – Sunny and Austin

1

Sunny and Austin’s Holly Hedge Wedding was fantastic. Holly Hedge is one of my favorite venues to shoot at and Sunny and Austin are one of my favorite couples to photograph. In our very first conversation over a year ago, Sunny blew me away with how excited she was, both for and about pictures. We talked about all kinds of ideas for the engagement session which after careful consideration we were able to plan in the fall at a semi-private beach near Cape May at sunset.  We had such a good time and I was really looking forward to Saturday’s wedding. Saturday’s weather was aggressively steamy and though the clouds were threatening all day, we had some fantastic luck with the rain as it came and went at the perfect times. We were able to capture some portraits at the nearby Stockton Bridge, where we they literally stopped traffic.  Back at Holly Hedge, their dog Coda made a brief appearance to stake his claim to Sunny. Then we all enjoyed a beautiful outdoor ceremony that beat the rain by mere minutes. After the cocktails in the old barn and a packed dance floor reception, we captured some enchanting late night photos in the rain. Having the opportunity to shoot those night shots is one of my favorite things to do and capturing them in the rain at the end of a long wedding day takes a special couple like Sunny and Austin. So happy we got to be there for this wedding1

Congrats Sunny and Austin! Be sure to wish them well in the comments below!

Gloria and Rick’s New Jersey Farm Wedding

2

Gloria and Rick’s New Jersey Farm Wedding was simply amazing. The wedding took place at Gloria’s parents farm in Allentown NJ. The farm was an absolutely perfect wedding venue. From the beautifully restored farm house, to the old barn where the ceremony was held, to the formal garden that hosted the cocktail hour and finally to the open air tent with a clear ceiling so Gloria and Rick could enjoy the reception beneath the stars. There was so much to like about this wedding, and not the least of which was Gloria and Rick and their fantastic personalities.

There is a tradition in the South that in order to stave off rain on your wedding day, the couple buries an unopened bottle of bourbon, upside down at the site of the ceremony exactly one month prior to the day. I can’t speak to its supernatural effectiveness but I can report that the weather on Saturday was absolutely perfect so maybe there’s something there. One of the highlights of the day to both witness and photograph was Rick and Gloria digging up that bourbon bottle. They had apparently buried it deeper than they’d intended so it took a bit longer to exhume, which of course meant more time for pictures. It was excellent. Before the bourbon fiasco and before the ceremony, we also dedicated some time to photographing Gloria with her horses. Gloria is a champion horse rider and wanted to make sure she got her two horses, who live on the property, into her wedding photos. They made for excellent subjects.

This wedding day required a lot of organization and planning and I can’t say enough about the excellent work of Kristin Phalines and her team at Kyle Michelle Weddings. Their setups looked fantastic and they managed the day seamlessly. They also did a great job working with the amazing artistry of the Chesterfield Floral Company.

Congrats to Gloria and Rick! Be sure to wish the couple well in the comments below!

Liz and Ryan’s Greenville Country Club Wedding

This weekend brought with it some of the finest June weather a wedding photographer could ask for and, more importantly, a fantastic wedding with a great couple. Liz and Ryan’s Greenville Country Club wedding was spectacular. The Greenville Country Club sits atop rolling hills and the stone building and beautifully manicured grounds provide everything a couple could need for a perfect day. Liz and Ryan were an amazing couple to work with: animated, friendly, and so into each other they didn’t need any direction from us. Beginning with the getting ready shots, to the romantic first look, the beautiful garden ceremony, the rocking reception highlighted by some high-energy greek dancing, and all the way through to the crescendo of the evening under the dancing lights of the sparkler exit, Liz’s huge smile never left her face and Ryan was relaxed, warm, and hilarious. They were a great couple to work with and we couldn’t have asked for a better day.

Congratulations Liz and Ryan! Be sure to wish them well in the comments below!

A Hoboken Wedding – Eric and Mindy

1Rainy Wedding Day Photos in New York. Photo by Weldon Wedding Photography

This was a wedding for the books. From the start, Mindy and Eric approached their Hoboken wedding differently than your standard one day affair. They had a plan to split their wedding into two days: The first day focused on an intimate ceremony, the pictures, and spending the time with their close friends and family. Then later this year, they intend to have a larger reception so everyone can celebrate with them. They had put together a pretty simple plan. The weather however, intervened. Saturday was one of the rainiest days I’ve ever shot a wedding on. Originally Mindy and Eric intended to hold the intimate ceremony at Pier C in Hoboken, but due to the torrential downpour that lasted the entire day, we were forced to find an alternate location. With a hilarious driver at the wheel, Eric, Mindy and the entire fam weaved our way through the rainy streets of Hoboken and Jersey City in an effort to find a suitable, dry spot for Eric and Mindy to officially tie the knot. We tried the Hoboken Terminal where the police tolerated our pictures but wouldn’t let Mindy and Eric say their vows. We then tried the Memorial Wall at Liberty State Park where we thought we might be able to get inside the old train station there. We were foiled by locked doors, but Eric and Mindy were determined to make the most of their wedding day. Mindy and Eric bravely ventured out of the van and despite (or with the help of) the buffeting wind and rains, we took some amazing photos of them between the Memorial Walls. Special thanks to Eric’s dad who provided umbrella cover for me as I laid on the ground to get these shots. I love rainy wedding day photos and these instantly became some of my favorites. Finally, we ended up right back where we started at the W hotel where we redecorated their hotel room and Mindy and Eric shared a beautiful, intimate ceremony, there in the bridal suite. It was different and it was absolutely perfect. I was so happy to be able to capture this wedding with them.

Congratulations Mindy and Eric!! Be sure to wish the couple well in the comments below.

Jersey Shore Engagement Photos – Laura and Anthony

Last week I had the pleasure of shooting Laura and Anthony’s Jersey shore engagement photos. This shoot follows a spate of recent jersey shore engagement sessions I’ve been excited to shoot. We met at Laura and Anthony’s home near Cape May and traveled to nearby Reeds Beach which is a hidden gem on the bay side of the peninsula. As the sun fell, we explored Reeds Beach and I got to capture photos of an awesome couple. Laura and Anthony were great to work with. We trespassed just a little, got yelled at for trespassing, saved an umbrella from being cast out to sea, disturbed flocks and flocks of seagulls, relocated some brooding teens and Laura even patiently indulged my newfound fascination with baby sea turtles. All told it was an excellent evening and a great way to usher in the spring engagement season.

Congrats Laura and Anthony and I can’t wait to capture your wedding!
