A Huntingdon Valley Engagement – Hannah and Joe

Every year, the winding down of our wedding season seems to dovetail perfectly with an uptick in engagement sessions; with couples who really want to take advantage of the beautiful fall weather and perfect light this time of year has to offer. Hannah and Joe’s Huntingdon Valley Engagement session was one of these sessions and it was fantastic. On my first call with Hannah a few months ago, it was immediately clear how enthusiastic she was about photography and moreover finding the right photographer for her and her fiancé Joe. It’s something I emphasize a lot with my clients. Finding the right photographer is both about finding someone whose work you love, but also it’s about making sure you’re a good fit for each other personality-wise. Hannah’s excitement was infectious and I was really happy you get to work with her and Joe. Hannah and Joe are getting married at a property called The Lords’ New Church just outside Philadelphia and that’s where we met for their engagement session to capture some great shots in the beautiful fall afternoon sunlight. The castle-like venue and the sprawling, natural property are practically hidden. You wouldn’t know it was there if you weren’t looking for it. After we’d explored for a bit and took some shots there, we headed over to the nearby Pennypack Ecological Trust which is a public park and bird sanctuary and made some striking images of Hannah and Joe as the sun set over a golden field. It was a great afternoon with an awesome couple and I’m super-excited to shoot their wedding in 2018.

Congrats to Hannah and Joe! Enjoy the photos and be sure to wish the couple well in the comments below!

A Spruce Street Harbor Park Engagement – Lindsay and Spencer

1

We kicked off Lindsay and Spencer’s Spruce Street Harbor Park Engagement shoot with at a little Italian Restaurant in Society Hill called Bistro Romano. The restaurant was where Spencer proposed to Lindsay and it made for a unique way to start the shoot. They had a private table in the wine cellar and it was easy to imagine it being an ideal spot for a romantic proposal. It was really neat to be able to recreate that moment. Afterwards, we took a walk to the Harbor Park and made some beautiful pictures along the Delaware River. Lindsay and Spencer are a great couple: Friendly, fun, and though they claimed that they had a little experience with getting their picture taken, they warmed up to the process quickly and I think the photos speak for themselves.

Congratulations to Lindsay and Spencer! Enjoy the photos and be sure to wish them well in the comments below!

A Wissahickon Valley Park Engagement – Alex and Steve

6

The last two weeks in October are one of the most popular times for couples in the Philadelphia area to schedule engagement photos. The lighting is great, the weather is comfortable and everyone wants that beautiful fall foliage. In those respects, Alex and Steve’s Wissahickon Valley Park Engagement did not disappoint and I enjoyed the added benefit of working with this great couple. They were up for anything as we explored the woods near Kitchen’s Lane, a popular walking/biking path just outside the city. I often tell my couples that shooting engagements is a chance to get your feet wet with the idea of feeling comfortable while having someone take your picture. On this shoot, I tested that idiom a bit when I waded into the Wissahickon Creek so I could get shots of Alex and Steve from the water. Amid the photo-ing, I got to know Alex and Steve a bit and of course was curious how they met. Alex was attending a party at Steve’s house in high school. She had brought a date with her, but once she got to talking to Steve that night, that first date concluded immediately and a new one began. Years later, they are still going strong and taking that next step so clearly Alex made a great decision that evening.

Congrats to Alex and Steve! Enjoy the photos and be sure to wish them well in the comments below!

Jersey Shore Engagement Photos – Laura and Anthony

Last week I had the pleasure of shooting Laura and Anthony’s Jersey shore engagement photos. This shoot follows a spate of recent jersey shore engagement sessions I’ve been excited to shoot. We met at Laura and Anthony’s home near Cape May and traveled to nearby Reeds Beach which is a hidden gem on the bay side of the peninsula. As the sun fell, we explored Reeds Beach and I got to capture photos of an awesome couple. Laura and Anthony were great to work with. We trespassed just a little, got yelled at for trespassing, saved an umbrella from being cast out to sea, disturbed flocks and flocks of seagulls, relocated some brooding teens and Laura even patiently indulged my newfound fascination with baby sea turtles. All told it was an excellent evening and a great way to usher in the spring engagement season.

Congrats Laura and Anthony and I can’t wait to capture your wedding!

Avalon Engagement Photos – Gloria and Rick

2avalon-engagement_photos-01

“This just keeps getting better.” That was the phrase I kept repeating to myself over and over again while capturing Gloria and Rick’s Avalon Engagement Photos. Gloria and I had considered a few different locations for their engagement shoot and eventually settled on shooting at the same place where Rick proposed to Gloria a few months back. Beach shoots sometimes take a little planning and a little luck. If you pick the wrong location, the wrong time of day, and the weather isn’t working in your favor, you can be stuck with a thin strip of beach, and little else to work with to add interest to the photos. The exact spot where Rick proposed was on the bay side of the town but to our surprise the entire area was under construction. Fortunately for us, not only were we able to find multiple spots that each felt a bit different from the typical beach location, we were also blessed with a perfect 60 degree fall day, a beautiful sky and setting sunlight. But perhaps the best thing, and I can’t stress this enough, was Gloria and Rick’s personalities. They were fun and uninhibited while taking these photos, and it made this one such a fun shoot.

Congratulations on your engagement Rick and Gloria and enjoy the images!
